Bill Bryant

Evening Anchor and Political Editor, WKYT

Bio Current as of March 25, 2022

Bill Bryant has more than 40 years of experience as a Kentucky broadcaster and is in his 37th year at WKYT. Even before he stepped behind the microphone at his hometown radio station at age 15 in Williamsburg, Bill had a taste of journalism as he and some classmates printed up a newspaper and sold it on the streets in grade school. While playing basketball, running track and serving as high school class president, Bill also got started in radio and cable TV. After attending what is now the University of the Cumberlands, Bill transferred to Eastern Kentucky University where he studied broadcast journalism and political science. While at Cumberland he was news editor of the campus newspaper and while at EKU he became a charter member of the campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Between his junior and senior years at EKU he did what was supposed to be a “summer internship” at WKYT in 1984 and has never left. At WKYT, Bill has covered it all from the police beat to natural disasters to inaugurations. Political coverage has been his main focus and in the mid-1980s he started the “Kentucky Newsmakers” program where he has interviewed 14 Kentucky governors, several US Senators and other state and national leaders in politics and business. He has also been a daily anchor for WKYT since 1986 and currently co-anchors our afternoon and evening shows. Bill has also had a strong voice in editorial matters and was in charge of the news department for a time as interim news director. He also hosts the statewide discussion program ‘Comment on Kentucky’ for Kentucky Educational Television. Along the way, Bill has been honored by the Associated Press for reporting and anchoring and is a proud member of the EKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni and the Williamsburg High School Hall of Fame. He’s also recently received the statewide media award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Bill enjoys reading, especially about Kentucky history, keeping up with family and friends and he makes physical fitness a priority with resistance training and cardio workouts.
