Cape Verde faces a particular problem in reopening an economy based on tourism. Prime Minister Silva explained how his nation intends to implement structural changes to promote more economic resilience and diversity: 1. Development of a more diversified, decentralized, and sustainable tourism; 2. Digital transformation; 3. Massive use of renewable energy and electric mobility; 4. Agriculture improvement through a water strategy based on desalination and safe water reuse; and, 5. Focus on the blue economy through better ocean stewardship.
The Prime Minister expressed that foreign debt relief will be a crucial component in sustainable growth, and that it is his first priority after vaccination.
