Description

Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seeks to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. To date, no single country can claim to have achieved gender equality. Gender disparity limits womens’ and girls’ health-seeking behavior, restricting their access to timely care, thereby putting them at greater risk for poorer health outcomes. Transforming primary health systems to meet the health needs of women throughout their lives is critical to improving their health and achieving gender equity.

This Concordia Live event will bring together several prominent international NGOs that have been at the forefront of efforts to promote gender equity and transform health systems by way of integrated primary health care. Through their programs and interventions in areas of need, these organizations have helped millions of women and girls achieve better health outcomes in areas from avoidable blindness to maternal and child care. Panelists will cover critical challenges faced by women and girls accessing health services, particularly in low-and-middle-income countries; discuss successful primary health integration strategies and their impact; and explore what lies ahead for women’s health and equity.
