Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union
to the United Nations in New York City

This meeting, the Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI) Agencies Roundtable for Resource Mobilization, is the third in a series of meetings that FAGRIB has been leading to garner support and raise resources to support Africa Union Member states in the implementation of the GGWI.

The First Roundtable took place at the Africa Union Commission’s Headquarters located in Addis Ababa during April 2021. Hosted by the then Department of Agriculture Rural Economy (DREA), the meeting set the pace for the endorsement of FAGRIB as a Partner of the GGWI in the Diaspora. FAGRIB, was mandated by the 6th Regional Steering Committee of the Great Green Wall Initiative that took place in Djibouti in November 2021 to support Member States in the development of Forestry and Agricultural value chains, in order to support fundraising and enhance the participation of African Diaspora and its efforts to combat desertification as well as build resilience to climate change.

In September 2021, FAGRIB and Concordia organized the Second GGWI Roundtable in partnership with the African Union Commission’s Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (ARBE), under the leadership of H.E. Commissioner Josefa C. Sacko, as part of Concordia’s Annual Summit. During this second forum, the “Grown in the Great Green Wall” initiative was launched in the presence of several Stakeholders and Partners drawn from the Civil Society, Private Sector and NGOs. The Grown in the GGWI concept is aimed at encouraging investors, private sector actors, and individuals to engage in off-setting their Carbon (Co2) footprints. It’s a platform where investors can leverage to undertake green transition of their businesses by investing in diverse natural products value chains.

This Third Roundtable, with the presentation of the GGW DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), will bring together Representatives of GGWI Agencies to present their current situation, priorities and needs pertaining to their respective National Action Plans.

This will not be the final forum to push forward the Grown in the GGWI, rather a fourth roundtable will be hosted at the 2022 Concordia Annual Summit, parallel to the United Nations General Assembly.
