WASHINGTON — Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter and of his White House advisers, is taking her signature push for women’s rights and women’s empowerment to an audience of global thought leaders next week.

She will participate in conversations at the Concordia Annual Summit on Sept. 23 to discuss her work with the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (WGDP), according to a White House official.

The 2019 Concordia Summit is taking place concurrently with the U.N. General Assembly next week and will be the “the largest and most inclusive nonpartisan forum” alongside the annual U.N. gathering, the summit’s website says.

WGDP is a Trump administration initiative led by Ivanka and is “the first whole-of-government effort to advance global women’s economic empowerment,” according to the White House.

When the initiative was first launched, it had an initial investment of $50 million from the U.S. Agency for International Development. Its goal is to boost women’s economic output in developing countries by $12 trillion and help 50 million women in developing countries by 2025, Ivanka wrote in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in February.

Ivanka will be discussing the initiative with Concordia CEO Matt Swift at the event on Monday, the White House official said, and will also be attending a separate event that highlights participants in a international leadership program of the WGDP who are touring the U.S. in order to develop ideas and action plans about women’s economic participation in their home countries.

The White House initiative “is wonderfully represented” by the inaugural class of the international leadership program, Ivanka said in a statement provided to USA TODAY, adding that the inaugural class is “impressive.”

“This diverse group,” Ivanka continued, “is committed to the Pillar 3 priorities of tearing down cultural and legal barriers to women’s economic participation around the world. The positive change that they are advancing in their home countries should inspire us all!”

Connie Jiménez, who represented Ecuador in the Miss Universe Pageant a year after the president sold the organization, is participating in the international leadership program and said on Twitter last week, “Thanks to all my people for giving me the honor of representing my country and region!”

During their stop in Washington, participants in the leadership program took part in meetings on Capitol Hill with as well as with Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce and Ambassador Stuart Holliday, President and CEO of the Meridian International Center, the White House official also said.

Earlier this month, Ivanka visited Latin America to promote the initiative, stopping in Colombia, Argentina, and Paraguay.

The 2019 Concordia Annual Summit is Sept. 22-24 in New York City, happening contemporaneously with the U.N. General Assembly.
