Former Colombian Presidents Uribe and Pastrana to Give Remarks on Regional Challenges at Concordia Americas Summit

February 21, 2017, Bogotá – Concordia, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that builds partnerships for social impact, will provide a platform for former Colombian Presidents and Concordia Leadership Council Members Álvaro Uribe Vélez and Andrés Pastrana Arango to offer strategic insights on a range of issues facing Latin America, including the implementation of the Colombian peace deal.

Building upon the success of last year’s Concordia Americas Summit in Miami, today’s forum in Bogotá provides attendees with an opportunity to participate in meaningful discussions on pressing challenges facing the region, such as combating corruption, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and implementing the Colombian peace deal. This historic convening promises to drive collaboration among thought leaders and influencers throughout Latin America.

President Uribe, who will provide remarks via video, and President Pastrana were key figures in negotiating the Colombian Peace deal, which remains a polarizing topic in the country. Both former heads of state will provide opening commentary on the implementation of the peace process and share insights on the progress Colombia has made in combatting corruption.

Announced earlier, President Juan Manuel Santos will offer closing remarks at the Concordia Americas Summit. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate will reflect on how he and his administration are working collaboratively to create peace and invest in sustainable development across Colombia.

Concordia Co-Founders Matthew Swift and Nicholas Logothetis commented, “Concordia is honored to host President Santos and former Presidents Uribe and Pastrana on this historic occasion as they share their insights on implementing peace. The Americas Summit in Bogotá offers a unique opportunity for leaders from across the political spectrum to collaborate in an intimate, nonpartisan forum that encourages meaningful partnerships for social impact.”

In partnership with the Instituto de Ciencia Política Hernán Echavarría Olózaga, the event will convene over 100 leaders from politics, business, and the nonprofit sector, as well as preeminent leaders in the Colombian Peace Process and government officials from the United States. Juan Carlos Pinzón, Ambassador of Colombia to the U.S., and Alfonso Gómez Palacio, President of Telefónica Colombia, will bring their respective leadership from the public and private sectors as Co-Chairs of the event.
