The B Team

Concordia and The B Team announce a programming partnership aimed at addressing and finding solutions to eradicate modern-day slavery within the supply chain.

Leveraging the strengths and communities of both organizations, this partnership will strive to elevate conversations and accelerate action around ending modern-day slavery worldwide. Through robust programming and action-driven resources—during the 2018 Concordia Annual Summit and beyond—the partnership will help inspire and develop global cross-sector collaboration to address and eliminate modern-day slavery.

Set within the framework of Concordia’s Human Rights and Civil Liberties Programming Pipeline, the partnership seeks to present a business-targeted approach to abolishing modern-day slavery through strategic programming and calls for action. The B Team will host a high-level discussion at this year’s Annual Summit with business, government and civil society leaders on the bold leadership needed to ensure ending modern slavery is as much of an imperative for business as it is for society. Speakers currently include Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever and Chair of The B Team, Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation and Vice-Chair of The B Team and Paul Rawlinson, Global Chair of Baker McKenzie.

Beyond the Summit, The B Team and Concordia’s partnership will help build the business case for action by cultivating proactive and concerted efforts to help the private sector understand the issues and address these debasing practices. To facilitate this, the partnership will also focus on developing accessible resources and tools to spark business action. These include a guide, designed by The B Team in partnership with Baker McKenzie, to help CEOs drive change both within their own companies and communities to be launched at the Summit.

The partnership ultimately aims to equip the private sector with a strong foundation to address these atrocities. Through these efforts, the partnership will also help disseminate and explain best practice within and across sectors to better enable business leaders to share learnings and chart a collective path for action.

This new partnership with The B Team will further Concordia’s work in the human rights space to eliminate modern-day slavery. Since 2015, Concordia has brought together individuals across the public, private, NGO, and academic sectors through its programming on anti-trafficking and modern-day slavery. Concordia’s 2018 Programming Partnership with The B Team serves as an extension of our commitment to equipping the private sector with the tools, resources, and relationships necessary to ensure human and worker rights throughout its supply chains.

This is not the first time  Concordia and The B Team have partnered together. At the 2017 Concordia Annual Summit, The B Team and Transparency International hosted a high-level session focused on the current crisis of trust, stemming from corruption and a lack of transparency. The session focused on  bold leadership from the public and private sectors to restore integrity in business and government and build more accountable institutions in an era of equitable, sustainable economic development.

The B Team is a not-for-profit initiative formed by a global group of leaders to catalyze a better way of doing business, for the wellbeing of people and the planet. Founded in the belief that the private sector can, and must, redefine both its responsibilities and terms of success, The B Team strives to embolden business as a driving force for social, environmental, and economic benefit.
