The world as we know it is changing – 2020 marks the beginning of a new decade with important milestones and challenges that have altered life as we know it. As the global pandemic continues to sweep across the globe, what’s abundantly clear is that a new leadership style, one grounded in resilience, pragmatism, benevolence, risk aversion, mutual aid and humility, offers promise for a new era of global threats. These characteristics that have been exemplified by women throughout the pandemic. COVID-19 has introduced the disruptive potential of female leadership, offering unprecedented opportunities for progress in advancing gender equality. The world is witnessing the fact that women leaders offer decisive, and inclusive solutions to the most pressing issues we are confronted with. Now is the time to grasp this moment of uncertainty and use it for the betterment of women’s equality.

In this new context, Concordia is proud to be continuing in 2020 its established partnership with Women Political Leaders  (WPL), the worldwide network of female politicians with the mission to increase the number and the influence of women in political leadership positions. The year-round programming partnership will provide a platform to promote the impact of women in political leadership, as well as elevating the voice of women’s expertise and leadership across all sectors, industries, and backgrounds. In addition, the collaboration will seek to prompt cross-sector partnerships between private-sector companies and governments in order to empower women and girls in communities around the world.

Advancing women leaders in society is a mission that cannot wait. In fact, this task is now more essential than ever because women face disproportionate economic, health and social risks as a result of the pandemic. WPL intends to make sure that women leaders’s voices are being heard – developing innovative virtual initiatives, studies, partnerships and calls to action that continue moving increased female leadership, and its myriad benefits, into the spotlight.

In September 2020, Concordia’s 10th Annual Summit will secure a place for women at key tables and will continue to create opportunities for women political leaders to share good practices and challenges that need to be addressed, for better policy making. Concordia and WPL look forward to co-developing and co-hosting substantive digital programming that will bring together prominent female politicians and leaders to foster urgent and sustained action and partnership opportunities for women’s equality and leadership

It’s time to collectively recognise the contributions of women political leaders; it’s time to amplify the important work these women are doing through concrete and collaborative action among leaders, sectors, industries, states, and countries.

As the global community imagines what a post-COVID-19 world will look like – this partnership emphasizes Concordia and WPL’s  shared commitment to establishing a “new normal” that fosters equality and delivers on promises of equitable leadership.

“WPL focuses on the power of partnerships and connections to achieve its mission of increasing the number and influence of women in political leadership. The partnership with Concordia offers an opportunity to build new communities of knowledge and provide examples of how female leaders shape societies,” says Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Founder & President of WPL.

“Our partnership with WPL will see us convene a number of influential women leaders to elevate the critical role of women in political office in advancing progress and change,” adds Matthew Swift, Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO of Concordia.
