Concordia proudly welcomes The Rt Hon the Baroness May of Maidenhead, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to the Leadership Council.

Having served as Member of Parliament for Maidenhead since 1997, Lady May has held various positions within Parliament, including membership in the Shadow Cabinet from 1999 to 2010. Notably, she made history as the first female Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2002 to 2003. In 2010, Mrs. May was appointed Home Secretary, a role she held for an impressive six years before assuming the position of Prime Minister.

Lady May’s journey is characterized by her dedication to public service and her unwavering commitment to her constituents. From her early days as a local campaigner to her tenure as a councillor in the London Borough of Merton, Lady May has been deeply engaged in grassroots politics. Her active involvement in initiatives to improve local infrastructure and services exemplifies her dedication to serving her community.

“Marking a significant development for Concordia, I’m delighted to welcome The Rt Hon the Baroness May of Maidenhead to our Leadership Council,” commented Matthew Swift, Co-Founder, President & CEO of Concordia. “Lady May has played a crucial role in the success of the Concordia Europe Initiative by joining us at our Summit in Porto. Her dedication to public service and extensive experience in government will undoubtedly enrich our efforts, while her work to combat modern slavery and human trafficking will bring a valuable perspective and focus to our programming.”

In addition to her role as Prime Minister, Lady May has held various ministerial positions within the UK government, including Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities. Additionally, as the architect of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, she has equipped law enforcement with vital tools, established the independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, and championed support for victims. Throughout her tenure, she has been a staunch advocate for human rights, gender equality, and international cooperation.

This year, Concordia had the privilege of hosting a luncheon with Lady May as part of the Europe Initiative. The event brought together a diverse group of distinguished individuals to discuss topics ranging from UK-U.S. and UK-EU relations to female leadership and human trafficking.
