Connecticut public-private partnership deploys solar to underserved communities
EnergyNews

Green initiatives are too often considered a luxury rather than a given because of their price tag. A popular example is making the switch to solar energy — in Connecticut, homeowners can expect to spend thousands of dollars to have solar panels installed. However, thanks to a partnership between PosiGen, a Louisiana-based solar company, and the Connecticut Green Bank, a pioneer in the green lending realm, solar energy is now more accessible to low-to-moderate income households that have been left out of Connecticut’s growing green economy.

WHY IT MATTERSThis public-private partnership is actively making green energy more accessible and affordable for people of all income brackets statewide in Connecticut, increasing the prominence of sustainability.

Fooddive

In a new partnership with Apeel Sciences, grocery-chain Kroger is tackling food waste, which has grown to be a major issue within the industry in the last few years. According to the article, Apeel avocados stay ripe for twice as long as conventional ones, making them a key product in the company’s efforts to reduce waste. WHY IT MATTERS: Food waste remains a major issue for grocery chains in the United States, and through this partnership and its Zero Hunger Zero initiative, Kroger is acknowledging its presence as a major food retailer that can make a significant difference. The grocery chain is also demonstrating a concrete effort to finding a sustainable way of reducing the amount of food that goes to waste.
