Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State

The  Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State, the University of Virginia Darden School of Business Institute for Business in Society and Concordia today announced the finalists for the 2017 P3 Impact Award, which recognizes model public-private partnerships (P3s) from around the world. Following rigorous evaluation of nearly 50 submissions, a judging committee selected five finalists.

Addressing a variety of pressing global issues centered on themes such as economic development, employment, agriculture, health and sanitation, and women’s empowerment, the finalists for the 2017 award are: 

The Accenture and Upwardly Global Partnership — a partnership between Upwardly Global (UpGlo) and Accenture to use technology to help skilled immigrants and refugees with previous advanced education and professional experience find sustainable employment and better integrate into the U.S. economy.

Care-Cargill Partnership: Nourishing the Future in Central America — a partnership between Care USA and Cargill Incorporated to foster more prosperous and resilient farming communities by promoting sustainability, food security, and nutrition across 66 of the most marginalized communities in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.   

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women —an initiative that has helped foster economic growth by providing women entrepreneurs in 56 countries with business education and access to capital since 2008 and is now expanding to provide access to capital for 100,000 women through a global finance facility in partnership with International Finance Corporation

Partnering for Poultry — a partnership between the United States Agency for Development (USAID)’s Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation program and EthioChicken to integrate a nutrition-centered marketing campaign and spark a more vibrant local economy in two regions of Ethiopia, Amhara and Tigray.

Sanitation Marketing Systems in Bangladesh —  a partnership between the Bangladesh Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), Unicef, iDE, and Rangpur Foundry Ltd. (RFL) to strengthen the sanitation market system in Bangladesh and prevent the spread of disease by facilitating scalable, sustainable access to improved sanitation.

The winner of the P3 Impact Award will be announced at the Concordia Summit taking place September 18 th and 19th in New York City. During a strategic dialogue at the Summit, finalists will present their partnership in front of judges and an audience. The P3 Impact Award winner, along with an audience choice winner, will then be announced at the Concordia Summit’s main plenary stage.

Additionally, each finalist will be featured in a special edition of the Darden School’s thought-leadership publication, Darden Ideas to Action , focused on the P3 Impact Award. The award winner will also receive a full scholarship to attend a weeklong Darden Executive Education course.
