A Message from our Founders
2020 was a turning point in history. Almost overnight, COVID-19 plunged the world into extreme uncertainty and radically reshaped our lives as we knew them. Political, social, and economic disruptions unfolded at unparalleled speed and scale. But this period of immense upheaval has provided fertile ground for opportunity—for advancements in technology, for solutions that address the climate crisis, and for a revitalized push to end systemic racism. At Concordia, we knew that we needed to leverage our convening power more than ever before—we needed to create spaces for the global community to come together to transform ideas and conversations into tangible solutions and to tackle this crisis inclusively and collaboratively.
When it felt like so much of the world had come to a standstill, we at Concordia did what we do best: we adapted and mobilized. We pushed forward with our most impactful programming and partnership development yet. In September, we held our first ever fully-digital Annual Summit, which elevated traditionally-excluded voices and sparked much-needed collaboration among leaders, sectors, industries, states, and countries. Our Summit marked the official launch of the Concordia Action Alliance, a dedicated programming and member engagement track to support partnerships addressing natural disaster and pandemic resiliency. In November, we hosted the 2020 Concordia Africa Initiative, a critical step in amplifying Africa-driven dialogue. And, in December, we convened global leaders at the 5th Concordia Americas Summit to tackle the toughest issues and the biggest opportunities facing the Western Hemisphere.
Most importantly, we were able to push forward because of the strength and dedication of our community. We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to our Leadership Council, Advisors, Members, Sponsors, Partners, Speakers, and Board Members, whose endless commitment to bringing about a kinder, brighter future inspires all that we do.
