Today Concordia welcomes Jeh Johnson, Former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (2013-2017), to its Leadership Council.
From Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York to General Counsel of the Department of Defense, Secretary Johnson’s career has been rooted in public service and equality. Most recently, Secretary Johnson led the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he oversaw many management reforms of the department, raised morale, and realigned the department to focus more sharply on cybersecurity, reprioritizing immigration enforcement resources on threats to public safety, and countering violent extremism in the U.S. Johnson now practices law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Affiliated with Paul Weiss since 1984, Johnson was elected the firm’s first African American partner in 1994.
At the 2018 Concordia Annual Summit, Secretary Johnson shared his perspective on the challenges for security and the opportunities that lie ahead in an interview titled Our Homeland Security: An Assessment in 2018. He explored terrorism both from a domestic and international perspective, while also examining cybersecurity threats from individuals and entities with political agendas.
“In his leadership of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Johnson played a critical role in strengthening the overall security of the country,” commented Concordia Co-Founders Nicholas Logothetis and Matthew Swift. “Building on his long-standing reputation for both expertise and integrity, Secretary Johnson’s model of leadership has been truly inspirational, and we are honored to welcome him to our Leadership Council.”
Upon accepting the invitation, Johnson commented: “I am pleased and honored to be appointed to the Concordia Leadership Council. It is apparent to me that Concordia is a leading organization on the world stage and I pledge to be an active participant in its affairs.”
