Globally, 540 children are born each day with a cleft. Barriers to treatment mean that children with untreated clefts face physical difficulties eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking.

Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. For 21 years, Smile Train has provided safe and high-quality cleft care for more than 1.5 million children around the world completely free of charge. Smile Train also provides essential treatments beyond cleft surgery, including nutrition programs, orthodontic and dental care, speech therapy, and social and emotional support.

The organization works with local community leaders to educate people and demystify clefts, thereby helping them to provide a better quality of care to children in their communities. By empowering local medical professionals to provide free cleft treatment in their own communities, they are able to reach more children in need and transform countless more lives for the better.

During the 2020 Annual Summit, Concordia will highlight Smile Train’s ongoing leadership and advocacy helping thousands of cleft children around the world get new smiles.
