The Concordia leadership team is delighted to reveal the addition of Dr. Githinji Gitahi to the esteemed Leadership Council.
Dr. Githinji Gitahi is a vocal advocate for pro-poor Universal Health Coverage and leads the largest thought leadership convening on the African health agenda. Dr. Gitahi joined Amref Health Africa (Amref) in 2015 as CEO and has worked in various positions in the health, media, and private sectors. Prior to joining Amref, he was the Vice President and Regional Director for Africa with Smile Train International, mobilizing training, funding, and resources for children in need. From safe maternity rights, to building accessible healthcare, and vaccine justice, Dr. Gitahi works tirelessly to promote health-related injustices in Africa and the wider global community. His work empowers the young, whilst encouraging the transformation of established systems and perspectives.

“Today’s challenges are complex while tomorrow’s challenges are unpredictable, volatile, and ambiguous, and indeed the most monumental threat to humanity’s survival yet. No one person, industry, or sector will be in a position to respond on their own and Concordia’s unusual ability to convene leaders from multiple sectors to solve unusual problems will be even more powerful in these unusual times,” commented Dr. Gitahi. “I look forward to joining and actively participating in the Leadership Council to learn, to do, and to change society for the better”.

Dr. Gitahi is renowned as a leader on the global and regional front with notable achievements, including: previously co-chairing the global UHC2030 movement; currently serving on the Commission on Africa’s COVID-19 Response; serving as a member of the Governing Board of Africa CDC; and being appointed to the Board of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). He also serves on the Board of The Standard Group in Kenya and the Board of Trustees of Safaricom Foundation.

“Dr. Gitahi’s career journey has been remarkable, and his genuine desire to help people makes him a highly anticipated addition to the Concordia Leadership Council,” said Matt Swift, Co-Founder & CEO of Concordia. “He is a trailblazer in his field and will bring a wealth of knowledge, tenacity, and energy to Concordia. We look forward to continuing to see how Dr. Gitahi leads the way in the African health sector and how his expertise will shape Concordia’s agenda.”
