Concordia is proud to present the 2020 Leadership Award for the Private Sector to Doug McMillon, the President and CEO of Walmart. Since assuming the role of CEO in 2014, Mr. McMillon has vastly expanded Walmart’s commitment and capacity to drive social impact. Under his leadership, Walmart launched Project Gigaton to combat climate change and work with suppliers to avoid 1 billion metric tons of emissions worldwide.
The Concordia Leadership Award recognizes global leaders within the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who have made pioneering contributions and inspired others through their ability to turn vision into social impact. Recipients of this award possess a commitment to catalyzing positive social and economic change, while promoting effective public-private collaboration to create a more prosperous and sustainable future.
Mr. McMillon is at the forefront of efforts to advocate for racial equity in finance, healthcare, education and workforce, and criminal justice. As Chairman of the Business Roundtable, he has announced the formation of a special committee to advance racial equality. Additionally, Mr McMillon has also announced that Walmart Foundation will commit $100 million over five years to create a new center on racial equity.
The 2020 Leadership Award also recognizes that under Mr Mcmillon’s leadership, Walmart engaged in cross-sector collaboration with federal, state and local governments to establish mobile testing sites on Walmart grounds, and provided vital PPE and supplies to health care providers on the front lines.
