Concordia is proud to present the 2020 Leadership Award for the Nonprofit Sector to Christiana Figueres, the former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), for her remarkable work to forge cross-sector partnerships between governments, corporations, activists, and NGOs to fight the climate crisis.
The Concordia Leadership Award recognizes global leaders within the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who inspire others through their ability to turn vision into impact. Recipients of the award possess a commitment to catalyzing positive social and economic change while promoting effective public-private collaboration to create a more prosperous and sustainable future.
Ms Figueres has an extensive history in the field of climate activism, having played a number of key roles in the governance of the UNFCCC before formally joining the Secretariat, and orchestrating the historic 2015 Paris Agreement, during which 196 Parties affirmed their commitment to transforming their development trajectories in order to set the world on a course towards sustainable development.
The 2020 Leadership Award also recognizes Ms Figueres for her campaigning and advocating efforts around the cutting of global emissions, as well as her dedication to social good through her enterprise Global Optimism, which focuses on encouraging positive social and environmental change.
