Concordia is proud to announce that the University of Miami (UM) will be joining the 2022 Americas Summit as a Principal Programming Partner.
Established in 1925, UM is a private research university with more than 17,000 students from around the world. Home to South Florida’s only academic health system—UHealth—Miami Hurricanes athletics, and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research programs in fields ranging from health to climate science to the arts, UM galvanizes communities in the South Florida region and beyond to build connection and devise solutions to complex challenges.
The 2022 Concordia Americas Summit is taking place July 13-14 at the University of Miami and digitally, with additional partners including the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States. Concordia’s longest-standing regional initiative, the 2022 Americas Summit will continue its legacy of gathering leaders from across industries, sectors, and geographies to confront the challenges and opportunities facing the Western Hemisphere.
“One of the most important roles we play as a university is as a convener of leading thinkers and doers—and from our founding, we have looked to do so not just in Miami, but across our hemisphere,” said University of Miami President Julio Frenk. “We are delighted to partner with Concordia to connect our researchers, students, and community with leaders from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors to help drive progress in the Americas.”
Concordia will collaborate with UM on programming, including a Mainstage session that will serve as the final part of a three-part conversation series sponsored by the Knight Foundation to explore the intersection of technology and democracy. Featuring key figures in tech and representatives from the public and private sectors, the session will highlight the ways computing can either strengthen or threaten democracy and human rights in the Americas.
“With its deep history and strong track record of innovation, the University of Miami is a hub of dynamism, entrepreneurship, and thought leadership,” commented Matthew Swift, Co-Founder & CEO of Concordia. “We are so proud to work with this leading institution as we curate our Americas Summit program, and look forward to elevating the voices of the next generation as we find solutions to the most pressing challenges facing the hemisphere.”
