The Road Ahead: Opportunities For U.S. & China Relations

As a crisis of global proportions, COVID-19 has the potential to leave a long-lasting impact on international relations, especially between the U.S. and China. Worsening of relations between the U.S. and China has been ongoing for years, but attempts by the American and Chinese governments to blame one another⁠—during a crisis that demands international cooperation⁠—demonstrates further deterioration of the relationship. Meanwhile, the crisis has taken a significant toll on both economies and prompted questions about what lies ahead for supply chains, globalization, and conversations of economic “decoupling” between the U.S. and China.
