Timothy Prewitt is the CEO of International Development Enterprises (iDE), working with a global team of 1,200 staff in 14 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to reach another 20 million more people with a tangible impact on their lives. iDE has been leveraging the power of business to reduce poverty since its first social enterprise in Somalia in 1982.
Tim’s professional focus area is the scaling of sustainable development solutions, particularly with innovations in product design, last mile distribution, and financing. He has a passion for bringing lasting, meaningful, and measurable change for underserved populations in challenging environments. Tim has brought private sector strategies to raising income, creating jobs, and impacting on rural poor through business-led strategies in 29 countries, in areas such as health, agriculture, construction, financial services, water and sanitation, power, and climate resilience.
Prior to joining iDE, Tim served in leadership roles for Chemonics International from 2004 to 2012, including the award-winning MARKETS program in Nigeria, which reached more than one million farmers with agricultural productivity and market solutions, leveraging partnerships with the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture, agribusiness firms such as Olam and Nestle, banks, and farmer groups. He served in roles in East Timor, Kosovo, and Afghanistan, and let the firm’s global Private Sector Practice. Prior to Chemonics, Tim worked in venture capital in China, with the international nonprofit Global Communities, and for the Open Society Institute.
Tim is a Fulbright Scholar with an M.A. in Economics and Sociology an M.B.A. in Finance.
