Simón Gaviria Muñoz is the general director of Colombia’s National Planning Department (DNP) in addition to being the youngest ever national director of the Liberal Party. He began his political career as a representative from Bogotá in the Chamber of Representatives from 2006 to 2014. In this capacity, Gaviria Muñoz helped create and promote several laws that would better the daily lives of the Colombian people including the law of insolvency which gives more than 15 million Colombians the chance to raise money before their houses are seized or they are evicted from them. He was also critical to the passing of a law named First Employment which has helped more than 600,000 young professionals establish a connection with the labor market. Gaviria Muñoz began his career as a financial analyst working for JPMorgan Chase New York before becoming involved in politics. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics with concentrations in mathematics, econometrics, and political science.
