Nicolás Bermúdez Vélez is a Colombian sociologist, educator, and regional development expert who has served as Local Liaison and Advisory Service coordinator for the IAF in Colombia since 2015. He supports the IAF representatives for Colombia on strategic topics, conducts the monitoring of the project portfolio, and provides technical, logistical, and administrative assistance to the Colombia program, helping identify new opportunities for learning and alliances. Nicolás provides these services through the Fundación Capacitar, a Colombian non-profit organization. He has served as a consultant, manager, and researcher for several international and local sustainable development and non-profit organizations, as well as national government agencies, including the Fundación Corona, Fundación Gaia Amazonas, Fundación Tropenbos, Fundación Puerto Rastrojo, Econometría Consultores, the Ministry of Education’s Democratic Citizenship Program, and the Ministry of Environment’s National Administrative Parks Unit. Nicolás has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Brandeis University, a master’s degree in Regional Development Planning and Administration from the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, and a PhD in Education from the Universidad LaSalle in Costa Rica.
