Nadya Chinoy Dabby is the Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement, overseeing over 25 grant programs that include the arts; community development; early learning; education innovation; personalized learning technology; school choice; science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education; teacher preparation and development; and teacher and principal quality. In addition, Dabby serves as a leading voice on government’s role in promoting innovation, and on key Administration priorities such as evidence-and place-based funding.

Previously Dabby served as the Associate Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement. Prior to joining the Department, Dabby served as Director of The Broad Foundation. At The Broad Foundation, she managed an education grant portfolio that included teacher and principal talent development; public charter schools; statewide school turnaround efforts; and various policy and advocacy initiatives. In addition, Dabby served as the Governor’s appointee to the California State Allocation Board and previously worked as a management consultant, primarily for nonprofit and government organizations, in the areas of health care, human services, and youth development.

Dabby holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Development and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
