Mariia Ionova is the People’s Deputy of Ukraine; Deputy Chairperson, Committee on European Integration; and Co-Chair, Equal Opportunities Inter-Faction Union. Mariia Ionova began her political career in 2005 serving as a consultant to the presidential administration. From 2008 to 2012, she served as deputy of the Kyiv City Council. In 2012, she was elected to Parliament, where she served as head of the Sub-Committee on the Legal Support for Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health on the Committee of Public Health. In 2014, Ionova was re-elected as part of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction. Mariia Ionova consistently works on the issues of European integration. As a Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mariia Ionova is involved in numerous international activities regarding the conflict in Donbass region. Mariia Ionova regularly conducts meetings with foreign parliamentarians, representatives of UNDP, UN, UNICEF, and OSСE to inform on the humanitarian situation in Donetsk and Luhansk region and Crimea.During the conflict in Donbas region, Mariia Ionova has worked on legislation to strengthen the rights of internally displaced persons and to assist women and children impacted by the fighting. Ionova is also actively involved in humanitarian efforts – collecting and delivering aid to hospitals, emergency shelters and transit centers for women and children evacuated from the conflict zone.
