Make It Happen

“Hope is being able to see that there is light, despite all of the darkness.”

Desmond Tutu

“Imagine, just for a moment, that you are a member of one of the latest media target groups – the segments of society that are too often singled out as being damaged, hopeless or even dangerous to their communities.  You’re made part of this group simply because you are — membership is based on where you are from, what you look like, a job you have held, or your faith.  This identification fails to acknowledge you as an individual.  Can you think of how you will find your way above the noise to break the label, to challenge the stereotype?  Do you have enough hope to even try?

I found this quote by Desmond Tutu in 2015, just around the time I started Make It Happen. My vision is to share the stories of those who have overcome unimaginable odds and still have the strength to seek a better future.  Our intended audience is other members of the target group that are feeling overwhelmed by the darkness, as well as members of the communities where they reside to show who their neighbors (new or old) really are.

But solutions for these troubling issues cannot be built on stories alone.  With this in mind, Make It Happen takes the next step in finding the complimentary piece of the equation, a blueprint for action.  Whether it is innovation, education, or engagement, Make It Happen takes the time to enlist key actors in order to build the opportunities that will lead to a solution – a community of hope for all.”
