Liz Clyma leads the formulation of the foundation’s primary health care strategy, which builds on the foundation’s and field’s deep experience in health systems strengthening, system design, and service delivery innovation and aims to dramatically improve the efficiency, quality, and equity of primary health care.

Liz was previously the director of the foundation’s health portfolio in India and was based in the New Delhi office. There, she led integration of programming and investments spanning maternal, newborn, and child health; family planning; nutrition; immunization; tuberculosis; neglected tropical diseases; health systems strengthening; digital systems and solutions; and behavior change. Earlier, Liz was based in Seattle as CFO of the foundation’s Global Health Division, where she directed strategic and financial planning across Global Health disease areas and led the team responsible for structuring the division’s charitable investments.

Before joining the foundation in 2010, Liz was a Principal at Bain & Company, where she specialized in corporate transformation. Her work included advising multi-national clients in the U.S. and Europe on strategy, operations, organization, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to Bain, Liz focused on private sector development in Russia and the former Soviet Union, both as an independent consultant and with the International Finance Corporation, where she led the technical assistance and advisory services team for financial markets across the former USSR.

Liz holds an M.B.A. in Finance from Wharton Business School, an M.A. in Russian Area Studies and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University.
