Katherine Pickus is Divisional Vice President, Global Citizenship and Policy at Abbott, overseeing the strategic direction and implementation of the global healthcare company’s citizenship initiatives and reporting. Working together with Abbott business leaders, Kathy oversees efforts to apply Abbott expertise and resources to help people build better lives and stronger communities, while strengthening its business and reducing the company’s impact on the environment.

Kathy also serves as Vice President of the Abbott Fund, the company’s foundation. In this role, she is responsible for developing strategic philanthropic partnerships with not-for-profit organizations.

Prior to joining Abbott in 2004, Kathy served as the Director of Corporate Communications for Fruit of the Loom, Inc, and as the Special Assistant for National Security Affairs to the Vice President of the United States, focused on advancing development and U.S. relations in sub-Saharan Africa.

Kathy began her career at the U.S. Department of State, working with the private sector to advance democratic institution-building programs worldwide. In 1993, she was selected by the United Nations to serve as an election monitor for the first-ever democratic elections held in the Republic of South Africa.

Kathy is a member of the Executive Council on Development at the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington, D.C. She also serves as a member of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council, which focuses on advancing the status of women in Afghanistan. Kathy speaks extensively at conferences and events focused on sustainability, global health and corporate responsibility.
