Kate Friedrich is the Vice President of Government Affairs for Thomson Reuters. In this position she is responsible for managing Thomson Reuters government affairs operation in Washington, DC as well as developing and implementing the company’s public policy/ government strategy in DC and in other key capitals. Prior to this, she was the Senior Director for Government Affairs and Special Projects for Thomson Reuters Financial and Risk Division and played a key role in developing its global financial regulatory strategy.

From November 2002 to March 2010, Ms. Friedrich served as Special Advisor to the Under Secretary for Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. During this time, she also was an executive branch staff member to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, the Global Affairs Policy Coordinator for Afghanistan and served concurrently as Executive Director of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council, a public-private partnership and multi-million dollar presidential initiative designed to mobilize resources to empower Afghan women. In 2008, she was recognized with the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal for National Security and International Affairs for her extensive work in this area.

Earlier in her career, she was a Program Analyst in the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration at the State Department and also held several positions at the White House including Special Assistant to the Deputy National Security Advisor.

Ms. Friedrich holds a B.A. in Government Affairs and Politics from the University of Maryland College Park. She is a member of the Bretton Woods Committee and serves on several boards including the Center for Private International Enterprise and the Software and Information Industry Association.
