Dr. Goodwin-Groen is the founder of this global movement from cash to electronic payments with members who are governments, private companies and international organizations. Under her leadership the Alliance has integrated the digitization of payments into many of the major development agendas, as a means to increase transparency and efficiency as well as provide a pathway to financial inclusion and to sustainable growth. Evidence of success includes the Alliance membership growing to 60, including 30 government members, the Secretariat expanding its programme to directly work with government members, and tripling its annual budget with full funding.
Dr. Goodwin-Groen represents Better Than Cash Alliance at the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion and serves as a member of the World Economic Forum Financial Inclusion Steering Committee and of the Reference Group of the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.
Prior to joining the Better Than Cash Alliance, Dr. Goodwin-Groen was the Australian Co-Chair of the G20’s Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion and the Financial Services for the Poor Adviser at the Australian Agency for International Development. Dr. Goodwin-Groen also advised leading organizations in the field of financial inclusion including the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor, World Bank Group, Soros Foundation, UK Department for International Development, FinMark Trust (South Africa), German Technical Cooperation, Women’s World Banking, United Nations Development Programme as well as Cambridge University in over 15 different countries, in every region of the world.
Dr. Goodwin-Groen holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bath, UK, an M.B.A. (Distinction) from Harvard Business School, USA and; a B.Sc. Hons.I from the University of Western Australia.
