Rachel van Elkan is currently mission chief for Switzerland and Cyprus at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Her previous positions at the IMF include mission chief for Latvia, Philippines, Singapore, and Turkey, and head of regional studies for Asia and the Pacific. Her research interests encompass growth theory, trade and exchange rate effects of global value chains, credit cycles, the transfer problem, structural determinants of inflation, and monetary policy frameworks.

A national of Australia, Van Elkan holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.
