Dr. Phyllis Magrab

Dr. Phyllis Magrab is the Director of the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD). As leader in the field of pediatric psychology, Dr. Magrab conducts research, shapes policy, and trains future professionals to address health disparities on behalf of vulnerable children and their families.

Aside from her work with GUCCHD, Dr. Magrab has extensive international experience related to developing services and policies for children. She is a consultant to UNESCO and holds a UNESCO Chair, and serves as the Vice-Chair of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council. Dr. Magrab also leads an international health and literacy effort.

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Magrab has been honored on numerous occasions. She was the recipient of the Surgeon General’s Award for Distinguished Service in 1988 by Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. She was appointed by President Reagan to the Maternal and Child Health Research Committee, and in 2002 received John C. Mac Queen Award from the Association of Maternal and Child Health.
