Dr. Ullrich graduated in Medicine from the University of Munich, Germany, specializing in internal medicine, and then graduated in Public Health at the Bielefeld School of Public Health, Germany.

He joined WHO in 2001, working on its cancer control programme. He has since developed an organisation-wide cancer prevention and control network which is engaging all relevant technical programmes at WHO Headquarters and Regional Offices in responding to the needs of cancer control in low-and middle-income countries. He is also engaged in developing innovative partnerships for cancer care delivery, such as with HIV – recently showcased at a side event at the UN High Level Meeting on NCD and HIV, which he co-organised.

Dr. Ullrich’s current major focus is supporting WHO Member States in scaling-up cervical cancer programmes and developing partnerships with Union for International Cancer Control, International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research, International Atomic Energy Agency and European Society for Medical Oncology. As liaison between WHO headquarters and International Agency for Research on Cancer, he is strengthening the translation of cancer research into public health policies.
