Deputy Commissioner, Operations Dermot F Shea was appointed to the New York City Police Department in April 1991. His appointment by Police Commissioner Bratton as the Department’s senior crime control strategist culminates a 24 year career with the Department which saw him hold various ranks from Police Officer to Deputy Chief. Deputy Commissioner Shea most recently served as the Commanding Officer of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Operations, and has also commanded
the 44th and 50th Precincts in the Bronx. Deputy Commissioner Shea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Deputy Chief Shea has been married to his wife, Serena, for 23 years, and they have three children: Jacqueline, Lauren and Richie.
