Dave Crean, Vice President of Corporate R&D and Chief Science Officer at Mars, Incorporated has over 30 years’ experience in food safety; working in many countries and most Mars businesses. Dave leads quality and food safety at Mars developing operational and research strategies addressing current and future business challenges. He has spoken extensively about the linkages between food safety, food security and the critical role of multi-stakeholder collaboration. He led the establishment of the Mars Global Food Safety Center in Beijing, China, a collaborative food safety platform designed to capture, generate and share food safety knowledge globally, and is a lead partner in the IBM-Mars Consortium for Sequencing the Food Supply Chain.

In addition to leading food safety, Dave is also the Chief Science Officer for Mars, leading both the Mars Science Leadership Team and the Mars Science Advisory Council. Externally Dave represents the science team in relationships with a number of organizations, including the National Academy of Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization.

Dave graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Applied Biology in 1982 from Liverpool Polytechnic.
