Ambassador Valentine Rugwabiza has worked for more than twenty-five years on African and global development issues in both corporate and public sector; as a senior Diplomat of Rwanda accredited to several countries and multilateral organizations and in senior leadership positions in national and international organizations.
Ambassador Valentine Rugwabiza is Rwanda’s Permanent Representative to the United NationssinceNovember2016. Priortothis,shewasRwanda’sMinisterresponsibleforEastAfrican Community Affairs from 2014 to 2016. She served as Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Development Board and Member of Cabinet in 2013 and 2014.
Ambassador Valentine Rugwabiza served as Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva from 2005 to 2013. Before that, she served as Rwanda Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and all specialised agencies.
She is a founding member of the Rwanda Private Sector Federation, Rwanda Women Entrepreneurs’ Association, Rwanda Women Leaders’ Caucus and Imbuto Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to the empowerment of vulnerable Rwandans through the provision of quality education, health services and housing. Ambassador Rugwabiza also served as a Board Member on the United Nations University for Peace
