Keynote Remarks: Reta Jo Lewis, Chair, Export-Import Bank of the United States

Speaker:
Hon. Reta Jo Lewis, President & Chair of the Board of Directors, Export-Import Bank of the United States

Taking the stage, Hon. Reta Jo Lewis, President & Chair of the Board of Directors at the Export-Import Bank of the United States, asked the audience to consider how we create a prosperous economy built to succeed for the next generation and built for everyone. Rebuilding our manufacturing base and sectors are critical to America’s economic security and growth. The U.S. Export-Import Bank is at the table to meet the challenges of the moment, fostering economic opportunity for U.S. companies and workers.

Lewis then highlighted several new Bank initiatives. The new China and Transformational Export Program works to level the playing field for American exporters competing in cutting-edge technology and clean energy sectors. The Make More in America Initiative supports exports-oriented U.S. manufacturing products and projects, ultimately helping U.S. manufacturing jobs in semiconductors, renewable energy, and more. President Biden’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investments will help fund infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries. Lewis noted that she sees the Bank not just as a tool for large global companies but a bank for everyone, especially traditionally-underrepresented groups.

Key takeaways & next steps:

  • The Export-Import Bank of the U.S. is focused on building a better American export ecosystem.
  • New initiatives lay the groundwork for more effective competition in China, support American manufacturing, and help build infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries.

“The common thread throughout our founding is leveraging public dollars to unlock capital for strategically important economic and national security priorities, all while creating jobs in the U.S. and facilitating trade abroad.”
