Building on Concordia’s previous programming focused on the African continent and with the aim of furthering Concordia’s footprint in the region, the 2022 Africa Initiative will consist of a high-level, invitation-only dinner taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
With a focus on South Africa, the Cape Town discussion will center on energy security, falling under Concordia’s Environmental Sustainability programming theme. Topics will include the energy crisis, the impact of rolling blackouts on public unrest and economic growth, and the steps needed to decarbonize the economy and accelerate the transition to renewables.
The conversations—and the network convened—at the dinner will inform Concordia’s next steps pertaining to a larger Africa Initiative in 2023, which will provide an international partnership platform through which to highlight the approaches, models, and priorities of African leaders and identify opportunities for collaboration with the international community.
