Katie Henke

Director, Civic Engagement & Social Equity Programs, Winrock International

Katie Henke is Director of the Civic Engagement & Social Equity unit in Winrock’s Human and Social Capital Group, overseeing a portfolio that includes programs addressing child labor, human trafficking, civil society strengthening, and institutional development. Katie’s background is in program development and advocacy.

Katie has worked at the international nonprofit organization, Winrock International for six years, previously coordinating program development activities and serving as the lead technical advisor for non-state actors’ engagement on the Africa Lead program to facilitate civil society and private sector participation in agricultural policy development and implementation throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Katie has also been an active participant in several of Winrock’s recent institutional committees, including the Strategic Planning Working Group and the Revenue Diversification Committee.

As the Civil Society representative on the UL Responsible Sourcing Committee to Ensure Impartiality, Katie advises on conflicts of interest in corporate responsible sourcing certification processes. Prior to joining Winrock, Katie worked on project management and compliance at the George Washington University’s Graduate School for Education and Human Development. Her previous experience also includes new business and project management in the areas of Democracy and Governance, Business Enabling Environment Reform, and Anti-Corruption at Chemonics International, a for-profit firm specializing in management of US Government-funded foreign aid programs; program development consultancies for a range of international development organizations; and legal and government affairs for several non-profit organizations and private entities.

Katie has worked on programs throughout sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and the Europe and Eurasia region. She holds a B.S. in Political Science and a B.A. in International Studies (concentrating on Africa) from the University of Evansville, where she studied abroad in Japan, Uganda, and the UK. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration (emphasizing Non-Profit Management and Leadership) from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Katie also holds certifications in Project Management for Development, as a Business Analyst, and in Social Accountability Auditing.
