Dr. Peter Neumann is founding director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College London, and currently serves as a research fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Peace and Security Studies. He is the author of five books (most recently, Old and New Terrorism, published by Polity Press in 2009) and numerous scholarly articles, dealing with different aspects of terrorism and radicalization. In addition, he has authored influential policy reports about online radicalization, prison-based de-radicalization programs, and Islamist militant recruitment in Europe. Dr. Neumann is an Affiliate of the European Commission’s European Network of Experts on Radicalisation; he serves as a member of the German Federal Criminal Office’s (BKA) European Expert Network on Terrorism Issues; and is associated with several other think-tanks and institutions, including the Club de Madrid, the association of former Presidents and Prime Ministers. He holds an M.A. in political science from the Free University of Berlin, and a Ph.D. in war studies from King’s College London. Before becoming an academic, he worked as a radio journalist in Germany.
